Stella and Angus eloped at the gorgeous Merricks North venue Jackalope Hotel amongst a small guest list of their nearest and dearest. It was typical of Melbourne weather, high chance of showers but instead we had mostly clear skies are way more sun that I had anticipated for!
Jackalope Hotel is a beautiful wedding location. If you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting or even staying at Jackalope then let me enlighten you on this fine venue. Jackalope Hotel is situated on a private vineyard in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula wine region, and promises an experience to remember. With a monolithic, jet-black exterior, the hotel stands in sharp contrast to the verdant rolling vines, this juxtaposition a nod to the hotel’s namesake, a mythical creature – part-jackrabbit, part-antelope – that exists only in folklore.
Jackalope unifies art, design, dining and storytelling in the guest experience, creating a whimsical interplay between the ideal and the surreal. Shared spaces are lavished with inhabitable art – think a 10,000-globe chandelier that adorns the dining room ceiling. While the hotel’s 45 rooms are a restrained statement of whites and greys. Floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces offer sweeping views over the 30-metre infinity pool and vines. With the option of deep-soak baths add to a spa-like reverie in-room.
Now, back to the elopement, the package offered by Jackalope hosts a small group in their spectacular Geode room. This small room whilst being dark also has so much light in areas and reflective surfaces. It certainly makes photography super challenging, luckily I had my flash on hand to bounce the light.
After having family photos around the vineyard and Jackalope we high tailed it out to the cliffs at Flinders. The result was catching the last of golden hour before the sun disappeared behind the hills.
